Artemisia – An easily grown perennial with feathery textured, silvery foliage that contrasts well with brightly colored flowers like Black Eyed Susans and daylilies. Cut back old foliage in early spring. Silver Mound is a dwarf variety.

Bee Balm – Blooms are red, pink, or purple with very aromatic foliage. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Spreads aggressively.

Black Eyed Susan – Golden yellow blooms with green to dark brown centers will grow in clay soil and withstand drought. Seed heads are attractive to birds. Petals will sometimes be streaked with red or bronze. Plants will re-seed themselves as well as come back from root.

Coreopsis – Most commonly bloom yellow to rose. Heaviest flowering int early summer, but many varieties will rebloom until frost. Varieties like moonbeam and american dreams have lacy, fern-like foliage that is attactive even when the plants are not in flower. Drought tolerant.
